CD Grab Bag!
$8

I am in the midst of stocking new CDs & DVDs for Sweet Candy, so I would like to move along music that I've had in the catalog for awhile. The grab bags will contain 2-3 music CDs. The CDs contain music from DIY solo artists and bands who play music in various genres, such as punk, folk, grunge and rock. I will also include some 1" pins & promos of DIY/zine projects!

SOLD OUT!
Joe Jack Talcum
Home Recordings 1984-1997
$10/ 24 tracks/ CD

A collection of small treasures for any Dead Milkmen fan, the new album featuring lead singer: Joe Talcum’s home recordings spanning from 1984 to 1997 is beautiful to say the least. What an experience to be had. You have songs ranging from humorous to downright silly to spiritually moving, though none stand out like “Madonnas Weep”, a moving ballad that will nearly bring a tear, and my personal favorite: “The Sun Shines Out of My Asshole” which is the true essence of Joe Talcum and reminiscent of the Dead Milkmen.

Although the songs were probably recorded on a 4-Track, they were mixed in stereo for this compilation and I think that really gives them the Oomph they need. Listening to the first set of tracks recorded from 1984 make me wonder if they were unused songs from Joe’s Pre-Milkmen band; The Town Managers.

At any rate, one shouldn’t expect the album to sound like a Milkmen album, because it’s not. It is, however, pure Joe Talcum and is a refreshing mixture of both meaningless and meaningful. What I like about Joe is his rawness and ability to sound serious and sincere when he is singing about the sun shining out of his asshole.

Punk As Fuck
$2/ 6 tracks/ Spoken Word CD
by Jolie (Mrs. Noggle Zine)

With the advances in technology, Jolie Noggle has re-released her original spoken word cassettes onto CD. Punk As Fuck was originally put out in February 2001. I own a majority of Jolie’s original cassettes. This is true DIY, just Jolie and her cassette recorder. It was fun to revisit the past and here these works on CD. Punk As Fuck is six of Jolie’s original spoken word pieces: Raw (But Sugar Coated), Starstruck (Punk as Fuck), Pulltoy, I Am Not Sorry, Heartbreakers, and Valentine. These are stories of secret loves gone wrong; a fan letter to punk rocker; wannabe’s; no apologies; and unrequited loves.

The Story of My Life
$2/ 5 tracks/ Spoken Word CD
by Jolie (Mrs. Noggle Zine)

The Story of My Life is a re-release of Jolie’s 2001 spoken word cassette. The CD contains five of Jolie’s original pieces: Sugar, Baby Wants A Forty, Gemini, Jailbait, and I Talk About My Heart Too Much. This is true DIY. Jolie leaves in her vocal errors and sometimes restarts the piece. I like that. It is the essence of DIY culture. Her emotions come through in all the works.

The Story of My Life tells the story of Love/Hate Relationships, drinking, forbidden love, and heart break. Jolie is heavily influenced by Riot Grrl and it came through in her spoken word.
